This database is unique in that it combines information that is not usually collected in one place. Community, health care, and Church resources often are very limited in their awareness of what one another has to offer.
The focus of this database is the area covered by the Archdiocese of Detroit, but many resources are of much broader scope. For example, there are listings for many pain management clinics throughout Michigan, as well as central numbers for national pain management groups. The aim is not to provide free publicity for organizations, but to provide what information is needed for appropriate referral. For example, it's presumed that a hospital provides surgical services and I wouldn't note that. If that hospital provides specialized gerontology assessment, or emergency psychiatric assessment, or provides bilingual staff, that would be noted.
Preference is given to resources that are difficult to locate, that are non-profit, or that are "hub" resources that can help to identify local resources.
For example, rather than trying to list local Alcoholics Anonymous groups, a regional number is listed that would then provide up-to-date information.
The information in this database is taken from a much larger project -- a fully relational database that was designed to make rapid, appropriate referrals while the caller is still on the phone. Please let me know if you're interested in information about that system for your own computer.
You can help in this over-all project...by providing information about resources that should be included, by filling in additional information on resources, by correcting inaccurate information. The better the information available, the better the database!!!
No endorsement is being made for any resource that is listed, and no negative comment is being made about any resource not listed. Attempts are made to be as accurate as possible, but mistakes are unavoidable. No liability is assumed for the information presented.
